The Oxford Dictionary has the following descriptions for the words “complementary” and “therapy”
Complementary = n. That which completes or fills something
Therapy = n. curative treatment
Therefore, a complementary therapy is a curative treatment which completes or fills something. Complementary therapies are often called “holistic therapies”, i.e. those which incorporate the mind, body and spirit of the patient as being of equal importance.
It is important to know the distinction between complementary therapy and alternative therapy. Please be aware that Colour Breathing is a complementary therapy and is supportive of any traditional medicine the patient may be receiving at the time. Part of our mission statement is to provide help and support to all doctors and practitioners in the process of healing their patients.
Alternative therapies are those where the practitioner does not necessarily want the patient to be under medication from their Doctor for any specific ailment.
Both complementary and alternative medicines believe that there are parts to the human being which are non-physical, which are just as important as the human body. The essence of these medicines is that they are vitalistic in nature and many levels of a human being are recognised; we are not just talking about the physical, emotional and mental levels here – the spiritual level is also of great importance.
The complementary therapies listed in this section are those which we feel may be of interest to our viewers. We hope you will enjoy reading them and we would welcome any feedback or ideas (
